Algerian President Bouteflika had hoped to mollify the anger in the streets by promising not to run for a fifth term, but his reforms have failed to meet the demands of the protesters.
Large demonstrations took place in Algiers and other Algerian cities with attendees demanding the immediate departure of Bouteflika, as well as his allies, whom protesters claim are manipulating the political system to remain in power.
