Barriers and security checkpoints have been set up in Buenos Aires as the Argentine capital prepares to host the G20 Summit on Friday.

Police and Argentine National Gendarmerie (GNA) officers were seen surrounding the Obelisco and Teatro Colon right in the heart of the Argentinian capital, currently on lock down.

Public transportation has also been cancelled for the duration of the summit while residents have been advised to leave the city during the conference, with Friday having been announced as a public holiday.

Numerous protests and related events have been called for the period of the summit.

The G20 Summit is being held in Buenos Aires and will run from Friday, November 30 until Saturday, December 1.
