Relatives and local residents gather in the eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar on Wednesday to honour the victims of the Nangarhar suicide attack which killed 68 people and injured 165 others on September 11 2018.

“Eight members of my family were killed. Two of them were my sons and six others were my cousins whose children remain orphans,” said Abdullah, one of relative.

Another relative, Peer Mohammad said: “We call on all sides of the conflict especially on the US to stop the war in Afghanistan and leave the Afghan people for a normal life. We call on the US to abandon their wrong position in Afghanistan, as this war will never have benefits for the US too, because they will be receiving coffins too.”

According to a UN report, 2018 was the deadliest year of Afghanistan’s conflict for civilians. 3,804 of them were killed including 927 children below 17.
