Thousands travelled from Greece to join the Greek minority community in the southern Albanian village of Bularat on Thursday to attend the funeral of Konstantinos Katsifas, who died during an exchange of gunfire with the Albanian police on October 28.

People raised Greek flags and shouted slogans such us ‘Konstantine you live and lead us’ during the funeral procession of the 35-year-old ethnic Greek.

Katsifas was shot and killed by officers from Albania’s elite counter-terrorism police unit, when he -according to local authorities- engaged in a gunfight with police officers sent to arrest him for firing a weapon and raising a Greek flag while celebrating Oxi Day in commemoration of fallen Greek soldiers.
