Hundreds of people gathered in front of the headquarters of the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA) in Buenos Aires on Thursday, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 1994 attack that claimed the life of 85 people.
From the stage, President of the AMIA Ariel Eichbaum demanded justice and assured that “while we live in impunity, the pain remains the same as in 1994.”
Sofia Guteman, a relative of one of the victims, said that “all the governments that have followed each other since the attack until today and the public authorities, are in debt to the victims and their families.”
On July 18, 1994, a car bomb exploded at the headquarters of the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA), leaving 85 people dead and around 300 injured in the largest attack in the history of Argentina.
The main investigation of the case was plagued by irregularities, and Judge Juan Jose Galeano had to be removed from the case in 2003 and dismissed in 2005. The court decided to cancel the entire case because of the number of irregularities, and began a second trial that investigated the previous failures.
