Commuters were spotted stepping on chairs to avoid a puddle as they left Hammersmith tube station in central London on Thursday.

Some passengers created a ‘chair bridge’ to avoid getting their feet wet after heavy rain had flooded the road outside the station the night before.

Social media users were quick to post their videos and comments. While some lauded an ingenious approach to solving the problem, others were critical of people allegedly taking chairs without permission from a nearby fast food eatery Pret A Manger.

The heavy rain outpour follows a weeks-long heatwave in the UK, causing the hottest summer in four decades.
