Chile: Authorities use SPEAKING DRONES to patrol crime hotspots

Chilean security authorities introduced an innovative method of coping with crime – a drone featuring speakers that could hail and identify suspects at a given scene – which was presented in Las Condes on Friday.

Las Condes Mayor Joaquin Lavin, who presented the drone, said, “Drones as security elements are used especially in the United States. The Chilean creativity was to add a speaker. This means that the drone can speak and can even use their cameras to identify a person.”

“The idea is to patrol parks and squares of the commune where there are problems of drug trafficking and alcohol consumption,” added Lavin, before proceeding to demonstrate the use of the speaker system.
