China’s Uighur detention condemned by 22 nations in letter to UN

Ambassadors from 22 countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, and Japan, have condemned China’s treatment of Uighurs, a Muslim minority group from the Xinjiang region.
In an unprecedented move, they issued a letter calling for Chinese officials to stop putting them in centres which activists say are more like detention camps. China describes them as training centres, helping to stamp out “extremism” and give people new skills.
Al Jazeera’s Katia Lopez Hoda-Yan reports.
