Finland: US diplomats in Russia to be stripped of ‘extra bonuses’ – Ryabkov

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Moscow was going to remove “some extra bonuses or preferences” from US diplomats in Russia, speaking following his meeting with US Undersecretary of State Thomas Shannon, in Helsinki, Tuesday.

SOT, Sergei Ryabkov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister (Russian): “Unfortunately, I don’t yet see prospects of resolving the issue with return of our diplomatic properties. That is why; we will go to court, as it was announced by the Russian president. The US side has been notified. They see our determination and firmness. Any half-measures that they tried to take to resolve the issue in summer before the outrageous step on closing our Consulate General in San Francisco and the Trade Representation in Washington will not satisfy us, and we stated that too.”

SOT, Sergei Ryabkov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister (Russian): “This is a normal process of correction. This is not an action that can worsen the situation. This is actually an effort towards the normalisation of the situation, when the US will no longer have some extra bonuses or preferences which they used to have for some time. However, after their severe steps towards our diplomatic institutions overseas, it is impossible to preserve this situation.”

SOT, Sergei Ryabkov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister (Russian): “And finally the issue of interfering from the Russian side to political processes in the USA. We have again provided evidences that these accusations are completely baseless. We reminded that there is an obvious to resolve this issue such as Russian suggestions of improving cyber security and IT cooperation between our two countries, but unfortunately, we haven’t heard any positive feedback from our colleagues.”
