President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker claimed that the UK will come to “regret” its decision to go through with Brexit, during a debate at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday.
“You will have to come [back] when you will regret your decision,” he stated after Eurosceptic MEPs had cheered his statement that the UK would leave the EU on March 29, 2019.
Juncker’s claim drew bursts of laughter from several MEPs including Nigel Farage.
Stating that “we don’t want citizens to fall victim to Brexit” Juncker went on to say that “EU citizens resident in the UK will maintain their rights, retain their rights after Brexit.”
“Both the EU and UK have agreed that there should be no hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland,” said the European politician, adding that the “life of the citizens of both sides of the border should be the same as it is today.”
