The French National Assembly voted in favour of the ratification of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) in Paris, Tuesday, with 266 members voting for the EU-Canada free-trade deal and 213 voting against.
The announcement of the result was welcomed with applauds and booing in the National Assembly.
The legislation will go through the Senate before being signed as law by French President Emmanuel Macron.
The CETA has been provisionally applied between Canada and the EU since September 2017 and needs the approval of each member state to become permanent.
