France: Police train locals to become garbage hunters

French locals have been trained by police to become garbage hunters in Anserville in a bid to keep the forest free of garbage, footage shows Saturday.

‘Watchful Hunters’ association signed an agreement with the local authority and police officers on cooperation on attending special training for preventing pollution in the forests and identifying delinquents.

The President of the Association Guy Harlé d’Ophove explained that the participants “bring knowledge of the forest that the police cannot have because we are permanently in the forests.”

Another member Luc Vandenabeele said the hunters took part in the programme on a voluntary basis. “We are passionate about hunting so we are always in contact with nature. So the people who criticize us, I think they should come into the forests to see what’s going on,” added Vandenabeele.
