In September, France’s highest ethics committee said that access to medically assisted procreation should be expanded to single women and same-sex couples. With surrogacy currently illegal and treatments such as IVF reserved for heterosexual couples, many women pay the heavy price of going to a clinic in a neighbouring countries.
