The stars and cast of the drama film ‘Minamata’ arrived for the film’s world premiere at the Friedrichstadt Palast for the 70th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), in the German capital on Friday.

Stars Johnny Depp, Bill Nighy, Katherine Jenkins and Director Andrew Leviras arrived to the red carpet for the world premiere of Minamata, signed autographs for fans, posed for selfies and gave interviews to the media.

The drama film, directed by Andrew Levitas, sees Johnny Depp – who also produces the film – play celebrated US photojournalist William Eugene Smith who travelled to Japan in 1971 to tell a story about the industrial mercury poisoning in the Japanese city of Minamata.

The film, which also stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Bill Nighy and Minami, is based on the book by the photographer and his wife Aileen Mioko Smith.
