The NGO Mission Lifeline won a legal battle against nationalist organisation Pegida at the District Court of Dresden on Thursday. Going forward, Pegida will be fined a total of €250,000 ($298,936; £221,051) if they publicly refer to the NGO as a ‘smuggler’ organisation.

Mission Lifeline is an organisation which operates in the Mediterranean, with the goal of saving drowning migrants. The NGO took legal action against Pegida, after the anti-Islam organisation shared a Facebook post dubbing it a ‘smuggler’ organisation and accusing it of working closely with local smugglers in Libya, in “blatant ignorance” of the law.
