The leaders of Germany’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Christian Social Union (CSU) and Social Democratic (SDP) parties signed their ‘Grand Coalition’ government agreement in Berlin on Monday.
The 177-page document was signed by German Chancellor and CDU leader Angela Merkel, CSU leader Horst Seehofer and the acting chair of SPD Olaf Scholz.
“Europe is the guarantee for a better Germany,” said Merkel. Scholz also called for the further development of the EU as a central concern.
Seehofer said it will be a coalition for “common people.” The prosperity of the country must reach all people. Despite the economic boom, the crucial task is that good jobs are available in the future, added Merkel.
The Grand Coalition agreement brought an official end to the uncertainty of the German government for nearly half a year.
