Thousands of people protested in Guatemala City on Saturday demanding the resignation of President Jimmy Morales, who is accused of providing an inadequate response to the June 3 Fuego volcanic eruption which killed at least 110 people.
As many as 3,200 people were evacuated because of Fuego’s eruption, with 2,000 being accommodated in shelters according to official figures.
Fuego – which means ‘fire’ in Spanish – spewed a stream of lava and emitted a huge cloud of black smoke and ash which rained onto the capital, Guatemala City, some 40km (25 miles) away.
