Haiti: Smoke clouds Port-au-Prince as protesters clash with police over draft budget

Protesters clashed with police on the streets of Port-au-Prince, on Monday, as locals protesting against the passing of a draft budget for the fiscal year 2017-2018 were met with water cannons and rubber bullets.

SOT, Guerda Guilaume, Protester, (Haitian Creole): “If Jovel Moise has a debt towards the bourgeoisie, he is better find another way to pay it. We the people can’t afford to pay the money through this budget. Because we can’t even feed ourselves and we, we don’t have health care, then this country is very dirty. Jovenel Moise should become aware of the situation of the people.”
