Hundreds of protesters held a sit-in at the Yuen Long metro station in Hong Kong on Wednesday, leading to a standoff with police trying to force the protesters out as they built barricades inside the metro station.
Footage shows the police presence and sit-in, held for the one-month anniversary of violent attacks against protesters at that same station.
“The police allied with triads to beat us up and suppress us, we would like to let more people know the truth,” said one protester.
Hong Kong has seen a wave of massive protests since the end of March against a proposed law amendment which could allow Hong Kong residents to be sent to mainland China for trials. The demonstrations then grew into a wider movement calling for reforms and condemning government and police actions. The police have been accused of resorting to violence, including the use of tear gas and rubber bullets, to quell protesters.
