Clashes continued on Wednesday afternoon in Hong Kong as protesters and police forces violently clashed in the streets of the city.

Footage shows police deploying tear gas and using pepper spray in an attempt to contain the crowds, with protesters responding, hurling objects and umbrellas while removing the security barriers.

Police were also seen using batons and pushing people away from the Legislative Council.

Protests turned violent earlier in the day as demonstrators rallied to oppose the government’s proposed extradition bill which would allow suspects to be sent to mainland China to face trial.

The clashes forced lawmakers to postpone a legislative session on the proposed bill, after protesters blocked an entry to the Legislative Council.
