Hungary: Barca ready for first ever Women’s Champions League final

FC Barcelona’s manager and players believe their side can upset the odds and topple European superpower Olympique Lyon in the Women’s Champions League final.

Midfielder Vicky Losada talked up her side’s chances at a pre-match press conference in Budapest on Friday.

“As a team I believe we are better than them and what more motivation do you need than facing Olympique in the final,” Losada stated.

Coach Lluis Cortes was also clear that, win or lose, reaching the final shows Barcelona are heading in the right direction. “For us to reach the Champions League final is an achievement. It shows we’re working well. It’s a step forward. We’re at a high level in terms of European football but we have to keep working.”

Netherlands midfielder Lieke Martens also dismissed speculation that she would swap the Catalan club for Lyon in the summer.

“I saw it also today in the news,” Martens told reporters. “I have one more year in Barcelona, I am really happy here. So I’m just focused on the game tomorrow.”

Barcelona, who are appearing in their first ever final, will face an uphill battle to stop French champions Lyon from winning their fourth consecutive WCL title.
