The Indian government is deploying additional troops to its disputed western Himalayan border region with China as tensions continue to simmer between the two countries. The troops were seen en route to their deployment in images filmed near the city of Srinagar on Friday.

A reported number of troops to be deployed is 35,000, according to media.

In mid-June, at least 20 Indian soldiers and an unconfirmed number of Chinese troops died during a fight involving hand to hand combat that erupted in the Galwan Valley in the mountainous region where India’s Ladakh region borders the Aksai Chin region, which was captured by China during a 1962 war.

Since then, both sides have rushed thousands of military vehicles, guns and armoured vehicles to the region.

India has accused China of trespassing into its side of the Line of Actual Control – the de facto border. However, China has refuted this accusation and urged India not to construct roads in the area, claiming these areas under its control.
