A gift shop in Tehran sold teddy bears to happy couples in the run-up to Valentine’s Day despite the celebration being banned in Iran since 2011, footage filmed on Tuesday reveals.
Valentine’s Day is frowned upon by authorities as a non-Islamic and decadent Western ritual which encourages pre-marital relations among young partners. The sale of Valentine cards and other related items are illegal and authorities have threatened a crackdown on those who don’t comply.
