Iranian President Hassan Rouhani denounced Israel’s claim of joining a US-led maritime mission in the Persian Gulf and stated Israelis “better ensure their own security where they are,” during a cabinet meeting in Tehran on Wednesday.

“If Israel also wants to participate and have a presence in the security of this region, the response is clear. Israelis better ensure their own security where they are,” Rouhani said.

The Iranian President also said that announcements of support to the US-initiated coalition were “impractical,” adding that even if they were to happen they would not help regional security.

“We do not need foreign forces and foreign powers to ensure the security of the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz and Sea of Oman,” Rouhani added.

On August 6, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said Israel was involved in the US mission, which aims to provide maritime security to Western vessels crossing the Strait of Hormuz amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.
