Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that he welcomes negotiations but not with the “bully” US, speaking at a meeting with artists and cultural activists in Tehran on Saturday.

“We must not give up against an enemy. We welcome negotiations but we do not negotiate with the party which says that they bring us to come and to negotiate. Like a bully, who takes a knife out of his pocket and forces to have negotiations. We do not do such negotiations with anybody,” added Rouhani.

He stressed that even if the whole unites, it can’t make Iran negotiate as it’s the country’s “power” to do so or not.

Earlier, Hassan Rouhani announced a partial withdrawal from the JCPOA nuclear deal in his TV statement from Tehran. The Iranian leader set a 60-day deadline for the remaining deal signatories to come up with new terms to salvage the deal.

The JCPOA, the so-called Iran nuclear deal, was agreed upon by Iran and the P5+1 (China, France, Germany, Russia, the UK, and the US) and backed by the UN Security Council in July 2015.

On 8 May 2018, the United States officially pulled out of the agreement.
