Iranian film director Kahani on a flourishing industry amid censorship

This week, Iranian director Albolreza Kahani joins us on Middle East Matters. He tells us about his new feature “Absolute Rest”, which has been released in Europe, three years after it came out in Iran. The director speaks to us about the censorship laws inside the country but also outside Iranian borders and the challenges he faces every day as a filmmaker working under Islamic law.
Also, some 11 million Syrians have been forced to flee their homes since the civil conflict broke out in 2011. Today, some fear being left in permanent exile because of a law passed back in April which allows the regime of Bashar al-Assad to seize all abandoned properties.
And some 17 bushfires have been raging in Israel. According to Israeli officials, they were sparked by kites, bearing flammable materials, flown from the Gaza Strip. They say they’ve brought down some 500 home-made kites since the start of protests back in March.
