Anti-government protesters returned to the streets of Baghdad on Friday, as demonstrations took place across the country.

At least three people were reportedly killed as clashed erupted at protests throughout Iraq.

One of the victims reportedly died after being hit by a tear gas canister as police deployed tear gas and stun grenades to control the masses in central Baghdad. Two other people died in Basra while security forces tried to disperse protesters outside the local government headquarters.

Protests broke out in the country on October 1, sparked by unemployment, deep-seated corruption and a lack of basic services.

According to a report released by the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) on Tuesday, an estimated 97 people have been killed at anti-government demonstrations between October 25 and November 4, while thousands more have been injured.
