In Iraq, the death toll from anti-government demonstrations has risen to more than 30. While Iraq’s Prime Minister, Adil Abdul-Mahdi, has announced that he will respond to protesters’ demands, authorities have nevertheless imposed curfews and internet blackouts. The protests are a response to growing anger over unemployment, official corruption, and a lack of basic services in the country.
