Dozens of people, some wearing yellow vests, marched through the streets of Basra on Friday, demonstarting against corruption and poor living conditions.
The protesters chanted and held Iraqi and Basra Governorate flags. Some were also seen hitting a banner depicting Basra’s Governor Asaad Al Eidani, demanding his resignation.
“We know now that the budget of the local government is actively spent on fake projects, actually on lousy ones,” said one of the protesters.
Military police were present at the site.
The unrest that started in July has been ongoing amid economic hardships, high unemployment rates and poor municipal services in the country.
