Iraq-Iran quake: Death toll rises to over 400

Today is a national day of mourning in Iran.

At least 400 people in Iran and Iraq have been killed by an earthquake on the border between the two countries.

An estimated 7000 were injured in the magnitude 7.3 quake, and some 70,000 are now homeless. Field hospitals have been set up to cope with treating the injured in areas where infrastructure has been devastated.

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani will travel to Kermanshah Province, where more than 300 of the victims lived, to oversee rescue work on Tuesday.

Al Jazeera’s Charlotte Bellis reports.
