Israel: ‘You’ve made history’ – Netanyahu to Trump as US Embassy opens in Jerusalem

Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu stated that US President Donald Trump had “made history” by “recognising history,” during the opening ceremony of the new US Embassy in Jerusalem on Monday.

“Spread the truth far and wide, and may the truth advance a lasting peace between Israel and all our neighbours,” Netanyahu said.

The prime minister also congratulated the US ambassador to Israel for being the first person in US history to serve in Jerusalem.

Trump stated in a video message that the US “will always be a great friend of Israel and a partner in the cause of freedom and peace.”

“Israel is a sovereign nation with the right like every other sovereign nation to determine its own capital,” Trump said. “Yet for many years, we failed to acknowledge the obvious, the plain reality that Israel’s capital is Jerusalem.”
