Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini described a missed handball decision on VAR as a “scandal”, after his side lost to Lazio in the Coppa Italia final in Rome on Wednesday.

Gasperini claimed that a missed handball by Lazio’s defender Bastos, who was already on yellow card, was clear and could have decided the game, but not VAR decision was given.

“During this season we saw many penalties for handball that were difficult to spot. Today’s one is absolutely clear, with the second yellow card for Bastos. This episode decided the Coppa Italia”, said Gasperini.

“This is an enormous scandal. Are we going to bury this? Are we going to let it go?” exclaimed Gasperini.

Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Joaquin Correa both scored in the final 10 minutes to hand the Rome side victory.

Victorious manager Simone Inzaghi called the win “beautiful” at the post-match press conference.

Lazio will now play in next season’s Europa League.

Fourth-placed Atalanta can still secure Champions League football for the first time if they win their last two games against Juventus and Sassuolo.
