Italy: ‘I won’t betray’ claims Giorgia Meloni at first election rally

The leader of the national-conservative Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d’Italia) party Giorgia Meloni held her first election rally in a bid to win the prime minister’s sea in Rome, Sunday, claiming ‘I won’t betray.’

Though Meloni also invited her allies, a former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and Italian politician Matteo Salvini, they did not attend the event.

Being critical of the current Italian government, Meloni slammed Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni for his recent meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Giorgia Meloni said she was “ashamed” by him explaining the Italian elections to Merkel as the German politician is “not doing Italian interests.”

Earlier, Italian Prime Minister Gentiloni visited Berlin where, as media reports, he reassured the German Chancellor that Italy is expected to still be pro-European after the general elections on 4 March, 2018.

SOT, Giorgia Meloni, leader of Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d’Italia) party (Italian): “I think that the Italians are the ones that can judge. I want to clarify that I have invited my all of allies to this manifestation not because this election is something between me, [Matteo] Salvini and [Silvio] Berlusconi, but because it is something between all our candidates and all Italians.”

SOT, Giorgia Meloni, leader of Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d’Italia) party (Italian): “I’m ashamed of a Prime Minister that have to go to the leader of another nation to explain how Italians are going to vote on 4th March. The point is that Angela Merkel is not doing Italian interests, nor the European one. She’s doing German interests. And if [Paolo] Gentiloni goes to reassure her, and she tells him: “How good you are,” it means he is not doing his job, that should be to defend Italian people.”

SOT, Giorgia Meloni, leader of Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d’Italia) party (Italian): “All these results are the consequences of governments that did not work for Italians, because they were not chosen by Italian people.”

SOT, Giorgia Meloni, leader of Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d’Italia) party (Italian): “We have to name the things right, having respect for citizens. I don’t want to finish in this way. What I can do, is to guarantee that a vote for Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d’Italia) is a vote to prevent that.”

SOT, Giorgia Meloni, leader of Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d’Italia) party (Italian): “For me, that is a more concrete solution possible, because it doesn’t make sense to go to vote, if someone has already decided for us.”

SOT, Giorgia Meloni, leader of Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d’Italia) party (Italian): “On my honour, I declare that I will always be and before all, a patriot on service of my Italian brothers. I won’t betray.”
