Close to 400 migrants residing in Baobab Camp in Rome had their documents checked by police on Thursday morning and 35, all said to be without documents, were detained.
According to a volunteer at the camp, the “identification operation” is normal.
“We were afraid they would evict us, but we were assured it is just a control,” she said.
The migrants’ life is far from easy as they struggle with lack of facilities at the camp.
“Institutions stay silent about the camp necessities as usual,” said the volunteer.
