Livestock farmers entered the third consecutive day of striking near Porto Torres, in protest against what they see ‘unfair’ milk prices.
The protesters reached the area of Porto Torres’ harbour in the north of the island to stop trucks arriving from the mainland, and spilled milk on the highway.
Sardinian farmers are demanding a higher price for milk produced in Sardinia and sent to the domestic market.
“If they now don’t pay us one euro plus vat (per litre), we’ll be at war until 2021, until then we won’t be producing even one litre of milk,” said one of the strikers.
They also dumped pork onto the local highway, in protest against the imports which they claim penalise the local production.
