Jordan: School bus swept away in deadly flash floods

At least 17 people were killed in flash floods close to the Dead Sea region on Thursday.

Most of the victims were on board a school bus which was washed off the road. The bus was carrying 37 pupils and seven members of staff to the Zara Maeen hot springs.

Emergency services had closed off the road where the incident is understood to have taken place.

A major rescue operation is now underway. Israel said it was assisting by providing search-and-rescue helicopters.

Thirty-four people have already been rescued, some of whom are reportedly in a serious condition.
