Rising tensions saw tyre fires lit and protesters gather in the Nairobi slum of Kibera hours as exit polls in the Kenyan presidential elections placed the sitting President Uhuru Kenyatta in the lead.
President Kenyatta, the son of Kenya’s first president, is on track to secure a second, and final, five year term ahead of opposition leader Raila Odinga by some 10 percent of the votes.
It is Odinga’s third attempt to take the highest office, after failing in the 2007 and 2013 general elections.
