Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu held a press conference with his Lebanese counterpart Gebran Bassil during his visit to Beirut on Friday, as the two parties discussed pressing regional issues.

Bassil emphasized the need for further cooperation between Syria’s neighbouring countries to facilitate a “dignified and safe” return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.

Cavusoglu, in turn, added that “in order to have Lebanon’s contribution to this matter we have decided to invite Lebanon as well as Iraq to join the Astana Process and thereupon Lebanon and Iraq joined the last meeting.”

According to reports, Cavusoglu also scheduled bilateral meetings with Lebanese President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri.
