Ruptly is live from London on Thursday, June 20, as the Conservative Party announces the results of its leadership contest, which will decide the party’s next leader and, consequently, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
The voting started on June 13, already eliminating three candidates and leaving favourite Boris Johnson, Jeremy Hunt, Michael Gove, Dominic Raab, Sajid Javid, Matt Hancock and Rory Stewart in the competition. Four other voting sessions were held, the last one happening earlier today, until only two candidates remained in the race.
Now the two last candidates will hold a month-long contest, giving the wider Conservative Party a chance to vote for their preferred choice. The final announcement of the next Tory Party leader and UK prime minister is expected to happen on Monday, July 22.
NOTE that depending on the fourth round voting results there won’t be a fifth.
