Police unions are calling for all police corps to take to the streets of Paris on Wednesday, October 2, for a ‘National March of Anger.’ The march is an attempt to urge authorities to take steps to improve the mental, financial and working conditions of police officers. According to France’s ‘Movement of Angry Police Officers’ (MPC), 33 police suicides were reported for the whole of 2018, while so far this year, more than 50 officers have taken their own lives. One of the main reasons cited by unions for this phenomenon is overwork. For the last 46 weekends, police across France have faced ‘Yellow Vest’ protests, many of which have turned violent.
