Ruptly is live from outside the Central Investigation Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs as the criminal case against Russian investigative journalist Ivan Golunov has been dropped due to lack of evidence of any wrongdoing, on Tuesday, June 11, Russia’s interior minister announced. The case sparked street protests and accusations of police misconduct over the last days.
The evidence gathered against Ivan Golunov by a Moscow narcotics unit, which accused him of being a drug dealer on June 6, was reexamined and found invalid, Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev said on Tuesday. He added that the journalist will be released from house arrest, which was ordered by a court on Saturday, later in the day.
