The Social Democratic Party (SPD) is holding a convention in Bonn on Sunday, January 21, in which delegates are set to decide if the party should enter official coalition talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel‘s party Christian Democratic Union (CDU) or not.
In case of a ruling in favor of continuing the talks and successful negotions ensue, a definitive government coalition will still need to be voted by SPD’s 443,000 members.
SPD’s leader Martin Schulz is expected to speak during the event.
