The Belgian taxi union is expected to hold a massive protest against the digital ride-sharing service Uber in Brussels on Wednesday, September 16. The taxi union warned the Belgian government about their protest after the San Francisco-based company released plans to expand its services in Brussels with the premium Uber X service that requires drivers to be licensed chauffeurs. Taxi drivers in Brussels promised to launch strikes similar to those which took place in Paris in June when French taxi drivers blocked roads to airports and train stations, burned tyres and attacked Uber drivers after tensions between taxi unions and the private car service boiled over.
