Michael Jackson’s iconic crystal-covered socks he wore for his first on-stage moonwalk is going up for auction on November 13, footage filmed on Friday showed.

Jersey-based auction company Gotta Have Rock and Roll is offering the socks as well as a signed letter from the singer to his late manager Frank DiLeo.

Edward Kosinski, CEO of Gotta Have Rock and Roll, said “anybody who has grown up in the last 40 years, they are going to know that those are Michael Jackson’s socks,” on Friday.

He continued: “He had the crystal glove and so people recognised Michael with the glove and the socks are another part of that ensemble, so it’s the crystal glove, crystal socks and it’s also his fedora.”

The famous socks Jackson wore at the legendary “Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever” TV special in 1983, as well as a Chicago Bulls jersey signed by the singer and Michael Jordan and a letter to his late music executive DiLeo will be auctioned on November 13. The bidding for the socks is set to begin at $100,000 (€90,700).

Jackson died in 2009 at age 50 of acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication at his home in the Holmby Hills neighbourhood of Los Angeles.
