Around 200 believers danced in the streets on Managua, honouring city’s patron, Saint Dominic, on Saturday, despite the coronavirus surge and the Catholic church’s decision to cancel official celebrations in churches.
People were seen dancing near Las Sierritas Church, in the south of the capital, holding flowers, with some people seen coloured in black. Not everyone was seen wearing masks or observing social distancing.
Some of the believers said that they came to ask the saint to “change” the situation with the coronavirus spread in the country.
Nicaragua has registered 3,672 cases of the coronavirus with 116 deaths with the disease, according to Johns Hopkins University.
