Protesters burned Chinese flags in Manila on Tuesday, following the collision between a Chinese boat and a Filipino fishermen vessel in disputed waters of South China Sea on June 9.

People held anti-China and anti-US banners reading: “China, hands-off Filipino fishermen!” and “Down with imperialist US and China.”

The incident happened on Sunday, June 9, when a Chinese boat rammed Filipino fishermen vessel with 22 people on board. The people were saved from the sinking vessel by a Vietnamese fishing boat and a Philippine Navy ship. The fishermen claimed the ramming was deliberate, while Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte reportedly stood by China, claiming that the incident was just a “collision”, saying that the investigation is needed.

“The policies and the recent pronouncements could be said as treacherous acts already”, said one of the protesters, Sarah Jane Elago.
