Thousands of Puerto Ricans, including celebrities like Ricky Martin and hip hop artist Bad Bunny, marched through San Juan on Wednesday evening demanding the resignation of Puerto Rico’s Governor Ricardo Rossello after a leaked chat was published containing messages critics have called sexist and homophobic.

Footage shows protesters marching with signs and Puerto Rican flags. Ricky Martin and Bad Bunny are seen waving flags above the crowd. Riot police used tear gas to disperse the crowds as the protest lasted into the night.

Rossello has faced calls to resign since Puerto Rico’s Center for Investigative Journalism published a chat between the governor and 11 top aides in which he referred to New York City Council speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito as a “whore”, while Puerto Rican official Christian Sobrino Vega joked about shooting San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz and mocked Ricky Martin’s sexuality.
