Ruptly has obtained exclusive rights to footage of the immediate aftermath of the Sukhoi Superjet-100 crash that happened at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport on 5 May and resulted in the deaths of 41 of the 78 people on board.
The footage was filmed by Oleg Molchanov who was sat on the twelfth row and claims to have helped three other passengers to leave the aircraft. The video depicts the evacuation of the plane, showing firefighters at the scene, airport workers and cabin crew assisting distressed passengers and even someone attempting to climb up the emergency slide while the plane is still engulfed in flames.
The 37 survivors comprised 33 passengers and four crew members.
Investigators are reportedly considering various versions for the cause of the incident, among which are insufficiently experienced pilots, dispatchers and personnel who conducted technical inspections of the aircraft, as well as aircraft malfunction and adverse weather conditions.
Aeroflot confirmed on its website that flight SU1492 from Moscow to Murmansk “suffered an engine fire upon landing after being forced to return to Sheremetyevo International Airport due to technical reasons.”
On 17 May, Russia’s Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) said Friday it had completed the retrieval of data from the black boxes, which is now being analysed.
