Russia: ‘I felt Russian for a long time’ – MMA’s Monson receives Russian passport

American-based MMA fighter Jeffrey Monson received a Russian passport from the governor of Moscow Region in Patriot Park on Tuesday, as he has intentions to run for a deputy seat in the Russian State Duma.

The governor of Moscow Region Andrei Vorobyov handed over the document personally and, after receiving the passport, Monson sang an old Soviet song along with a children’s choir.

Evidently emotional, he went on to say that he now feels ‘worthy’ of this passport and that he has ‘felt Russian’ for a long time.

Jeffrey Monson was granted Russian citizenship by the Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 29.
