Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow is interested in developing trade, defence and military cooperation with Brunei, speaking at a joint press conference with his counterpart Erywan Yusof in the Russian capital on Friday.
“We will continue to develop military-technical cooperation, in order to combat the terrorist threat, drug trafficking, transnational crime, and other security challenges,” he said.
“We give priority attention to the issues of increasing trade, economic and investment ties. We noted that despite the very modest volumes of mutual trade, there are good opportunities for additional application of efforts, including in the field of energy, agriculture, the production and sale of halal products and the supply of medical equipment,” Lavrov added.
Yusof on his part praised the Russia-Brunei relations, saying that “We have had excellent rapport on all levels from the leadership of our two countries to our officials and people.”
“We believe Russia continues to play an important role in regional security architecture leadership in the Pacific region,” he added.
